SAINT PAUL (June 8, 2016) – Saint Paul Almanac has opened the call for submissions for IMPRESSIONS, a project that will bring the works of local artists and poets to the rails and bus lines.
We are currently asking for submissions of poetry for IMPRESSIONS, a new project where the Almanac will work with 24 local writers and 24 local artists to publish and produce six posters each quarter, 24 posters for the year, inside Saint Paul transit. Each poster combines a local poet’s poem with a local artist’s work as a reflection of that poem. This project is funded by Knight Foundation’s Knight Arts Challenge, which funds ideas that engage and enrich Saint Paul through the arts.
Each poem submitted may have a maximum of 12 lines and a maximum of 50 characters per line. Submissions will be accepted starting June 16 and close midnight July 16.
Limit ONE submission per person.
“We are excited to have this partnership with Metro Transit and Knight Foundation,” said Almanac Executive Director Kimberly Nightingale. “The Almanac connects stories, art, and people. Impressions will weave through the streets as a kind of moving book, linking us to each other.”
All submissions will be reviewed in group discussions by our unique community editors (approximately 10 people). If your piece is selected, you will receive a prize of $500 and your poem will be printed and displayed with artwork inspired by your writing. Also included in the project will be:
• a film at the conclusion that will showcase artists and writers in live performance
• quarterly parties to celebrate, read the poems, and meet the poets and artists
• Posters available for sale to the public
Submit your poetry by clicking on this link in Submittable. Make sure that you do not include your name or identifying information in the submission title, file or body of work. You will need to enter a short biography of 50 words or less in the separate biography section.
Saint Paul Almanac is a literary-centered arts organization that has been publishing a literary journal of Saint Paul stories for the past decade. We share stories across cultures and cultivate dialogue to promote understanding, relationships, and collaborative action.
