April is National Poetry Month and April 22nd is Earth Day. To mark these occasions, on April 22, 2022, Saint Paul Almanac partnered with White Bear Center for the Arts to present our Global Poetry Celebration.

We dedicated this year’s Global Poetry Celebration to the brave citizens of Ukraine. We hope for peace and safety for all those affected by the war, for people living in other war-torn nations, and for those who are displaced from their homelands.

The event included 15 readers and represented languages that spanned the globe, offering a rare opportunity for people to hear poems in Arabic, Burmese, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hmong, Irish, Latin, Northern Sámi, Norwegian, Ojibwe, Spanish, Ukrainian, and Urdu. Some participants shared original work, while others read beloved pieces written by other poets.
